Back quite a few years ago I became a member of Columbia House (LOL - what a scam!) and when I received my 8 for penny they accidentally threw one in that I didn't order - a live album from this polka artist whose name has slipped my mind. Most people would have thrown it out (or returned it, I guess) but I hung on to it, and whenever I'm scanning my collection just seeing it cracks me up.

Do you have anything completely odd in your collection? Something that would make those who know you scratch their head over it?

I recently got into Rockabilly...Go Southern Culture on the Skids.
I've also got some music from some bands that had national fame (in the USA) for about a minute, such as Commander Cody and The Lost Planet Airmen (Hot Rod Lincoln), The Barbarians (Are You a Boy or Are You a Girl?), and of course the Motor City Favorites: Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels, and the M.C.5

Dig the question. I'd probably have to go with Crispin Glover. That dude is just weird and it is definitely displayed in his music. A friend of mine had it and dropped it on my computer.

Loose Fur can be pretty weird at times, but nothing the Velvet Underground didn't acheive.

I used to have all the theme music to the old computer game Star Control, that definitely would have done it, but I don't anymore. My friends and I used to joke about the impact it would have in repetition on the mentally ill. Unfortunately the disk got lost before I put everything into my computer. It's just really weird synthesizer stuff, a lot of use of the dog bark sound. One track is just a voice saying (if I remember correctly) "we come in peace" simulatneously in various pitches. You would have to hear it, but I assure you it's quite creepy.

Also notable, though not suprising, would be Bone Machine by Tom Waits. That record is just creepy.

Moreso obscure than strange, but I have the Carrie Nation tunes from Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Some great tunes, the movie was really strange. (Yeah Z-Man)

Oooooh, and the Suspiria Soundtrack by Goblin.

Wow... I have a lot of these! lonvrockets, b52s, even the best of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band!

But my weirdest? Hmm...

I have some Bulgarian choir - Les Mysteres des Bulgares

an album by a band called the Shakers where the whole album is based on the legend of the Bell Witch.

A guy named Steve Hite (or something like that) who tells a bunch of stories about Alaska in songs

A Tobasco (yeah - the sauce) album of Cajun music

A picture Disk of Siouxsie & the Banshees... okay, that one is on vinyl.

Oh... and if we want to talk embarrasing weird, I think I may have a Donnie & Marie album from 1976 or so. I was 6. I'm still embarrassed.

Dang Murphs....If you don't want that 1910 Fruitgum Company, I'll take it.....Big collector of oldies, including bubblegum music..... The local FM college radio station had a contest going on and I won about a dozen albums from them .... Strangest was some guy named Joe Venutti playing the violin, never listened to it, but for some reason have never thrown it away either after keeping it for over 25 years.....

Therion. I think they are Swedish or Norwegian or something. They were a death metal band in the 80's (I don't like their stuff from that era), but in the 90's they changed their sound to symphonic metal. It's basically heavy metal with choirs and orchestra. This was a few years before Metallica did the S&M concert. It's good stuff, but really different compared to the rest of the stuff in my collection.

The strangest thing in my collection I actually bought so there's no blaming it on an accident. Ever heard of a group called King Kong? I think they perfomed at one of the earlier Lollapalooza shows on the second stage. Their sound can best be described as B-52-ish. The male vocalist had this insane sing-speak style. In 1995, they came out with the album, Me Hungry, the story of a caveman who fell in love with a yak. I wish I had something on YouTube of this nonsense because this CD really sticks out in my collection, right next to all the KMFDM. Here's an audio sample.

I have a cd by a German group called E Nomine that is pretty creepy and wonderful at the same time. It's like techno music meets Gregorian chant. My best friend discovered it while traveling in Europe and thought I'd like it. It is completely different than anything else I listen to, which is mainly folk rock and classic rock.
