He solicited gay sex in an airport bathroom. But the person he was soliciting sex with was an undercover cop.
Apparently, if you are in a public bathroom and want to have sex with someone in the next stall, you tap your foot a bunch and slide your hand along the bottom of the stall divider. Then the person comes into your stall or you go in theirs and have sex. and that's what he was trying to get some undercover cop to do.

According to the press, Senator Craig, a conservative politician, has been suspected of being gay for quite awhile. He entered a bathroom at the airport and according to a plainclothes police officer, solicited sex from him. The policeman showed his badge and arrested Senator Craig. Senator Craig lied to the police officer and claimed the signals he gave the police officer were not to have gay sex, but were because he was picking up papers off the floor. The officer said that he was upset that Senator Craig would chose to lie like that. Conservative Republicans are calling for his resignation. Others are saying that he did a good job and they are not yet asking for his resignation. Senator Craig pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and said he did that so he could move on, but that he wasn't guilty of anything.

I think it is hard to be a Republican and be gay as the Republicans want to hold onto their conservative constituency. Senator Craig probably should have been more careful. Now that he has probably lied and committed a crime, they are going to want him out on that also. A lot of gay politicians marry because that is the only way they will get elected. So, he had to do it for his party and his constituency which may have been what led him to solicit sex rather than end up in a monogamous relationship with a man. Given his age, he probably could not have been true to himself in any career he would have entered years ago.

More than a decade ago, I dated a politician and both his ex-wife and I thought he was gay. He seemed to be attached to us but not physically.
