NEVER be afraid of offending someone, especially with a good question. If someone is offended, its THEIR problem. Some people are offended by the way you blink.
I dont know what you think of the Bible, but according to the teachings of Christ, Life is NOT disposable. It is not Gods will that life be cheap, that is why there is the commandment "thou shalt not kill". Problem is, WE have made it cheap. Our priorities are all screwed up, we want to bring death to the innocent (abortion) while protecting and preserving the guilty (criminal "rights")
In the end, Life is precious, possibly partly because it is so fragile. Good question!

It doesn't really appear that anyone else has actually answered your question, even though you have asked more than one.
What's life really worth?
I believe that life is defined as the span of time from when we are concious beings, entering a state which we are aware that we are indeed concious and breathing, to the point in time that someone is not alive, ceasing to be in that state.
Placing worth on this span of time is really dependant on the person asking the question do you not think? One could place the emphasis that a person's life is worth more if they made more money. Or even the one asking the question could place a higher importance to how many 'good' things that person achieved during their life, but then again you could argue the definition of good which is a whole other argument.
I say life is really worth how well you score against the criteria of a worthy life defined by the person asking this question. I guess the ones who believe it to be precious, like me, place the greatest emphasis on the notion that there is only one life.
How can something so precious and be considered a gift, be so dispsoable and easy to take away?
Well to those who hold the belief that life is indeed precious and a gift, such as I, I'd imagine they'd realise the disposable or extinguishable nature of life is not linked to the precious nature of life. But none the less the extinguishable nature of life is pretty much based on probability. For your average healthy middle aged person its just like lotto, you have very slim odds of winning lotto just like you have slim odds of dying, but like every week you hear about it, someone almost always wins.
Life is so easy to take away simply because the only thing certain about life is that it will end.

My thoughts on this are simple, no, life is not a very precious thing. In a universe so vast I can almost say for certain that life exsist else where. If life were precious people would be much more hesitant to wage wars, murder, steal, etc. for the meer reason that they wouldnt want to cause harm to something so valuable. You dont go breaking fine art and rare gems. But for me when I wake up to the smell of coffee, and fell the cool morning air coming through the window. Or watch the ever changing, colorful array of lights that creep over the mountains while the sunsets. I am very happy to be living and experiencing all the things around me, for better or worse. Life my not be precious, but it is UNDOUBTABLE BEAUTIFUL.

That is the reason life is so precious, cause it can be gone in a second.
Everything that you feel experience, and achieve is a remarkable journey. All life save man is basically a Eat, sex, sleep, and survive. Man, our life, is a tapestry of awareness. Be it internal gratification, or epic external achievement. The journey to experience all should be savored to the fullest.
So next time hug a few seconds longer, taste the food one more time, and live on the edge just a bit longer. Your mere question of existence is the testament of your humanity.
You never see a dog asking why he is here.

Well you never will be open to feedback saying you hate responses.Life is precious, but some people have no regard for others right to exist. It is worth living, because of the beauty of creation. There are undoubtedly alot of issues you have to deal with, but here is where you must search for something that is higher than yourself.Self fulfillment is a wonder.Everything that was ever made was intricately designed to coexist.

There are no absolutes in life, only relatives. It is all about your perception of life. So, from your perspective as outlined, yes, life does not sound so precious. Never thought of it as a gift anyway.
But there may be so many moments in life, even though they may be fleeting or short, that are so precious. These precious moments and your perception of them is what matters, not the physical life itself.
Being stuck in a depressed moment can be precious as well :)

I used to think like that when someone in my family passes away...
but life has its ups and downs. Its how you face your challenges in life that makes it colorful or not. I don't take mine to the edge but I'm not taking up too much room. I enjoy mine while I'm still breathing. everyone passes away, but you must really go on and carry with you the experiences that makes you as a whole. keep the memorable memories for it will always make you smile when the time comes... live your life, fulfill your dreams..take a step at a time to meet your expectations so that you wont be too dissapointed if things wont go your way...try to take risks for sometimes luck really changes odds...
hope I helped...^^

The most priceless objects in the world are the most fragile. And for that reason, they are protected and revered. Much like life. There is a time limit on this life we live, so live it to the fullest and make the most of it. The alternative is to waste it and be filled with regrets...

The point is to live life to the fullest because you never know when it is going to end. Either you spend your days enjoying it or you spend your life null and void because it's all gonna end anyway. Yes, it is worth something. Do you believe in the soul? The soul lives forever. Earth is the testing ground.

Many valuable things are fragile.
Aren't the most highly prized antiques the ones who are really quite fragile....and have been the least likely to survive time?
Life IS a gift, because it is an opportunity.
