Unit vector = (1/√20) (4i - 2j)

easier than it seems.
1. find |v| = sqrt(4^2 + 2^2)
= 2 sqrt(5)

2. then divide each term of your vector by |v|
(2/sqrt(5)) i - (1/sqrt(5)) j
