I asked about this a few days ago, but i would like some more answers and more details.

I am 35 weeks 1 day preggo, I am 1 cm dilated (as of monday, that is what i was) and 50% effaced. how long can someone walk around like that? I take care of 3 kids during the day so i am very active. the baby's head is VERY low and my cervix is really really soft.

has anyone had a baby at 34, 35, 36 weeks? were there any problems? how long was baby in the hospital? i am worried about her/his ( we didnt find out the sex) lungs, the baby having problems keeping up the body temp, and the sucking and swallowing reflexes.

THANK YOU for all of your help, it is greatly appreciated!

I went into the doc's at 35 weeks, he told me I was 2 cm. Said baby should be coming very soon. It took 4 more weeks and finally I got induced. My oldest came at 35 1/2 wk. weighing seven and a half pounds, healthy as could be.

35 Weeks Pregnant Labor

Once you finish week 37 you aren't officially premature. The baby will be smaller but fully developed. So you are only 20 days from that.

Some people are dilated for more than a month, don't let that worry you.

Rarely are there major issues for babies who make it through week 32. If you look at the average kindergarten class you CANNOT tell you was preemie unless they were before 28 weeks. If you were to have the baby this week there would be extra checkups, it would be small, but I think it would be fine!

That said, if you can get some help and rest that would be a very good thing! You need your rest!

Good Luck!

Labour At 35 Weeks

Most likely if your baby was born after 34 weeks the lungs will be developed enough to handle room air. There may be feeding issues that may cause thye baby to need NICU care after birth, but at 35 weeks it shouldn't be too long.

As far as being 1 cm at 35 weeks. You could go past your due date and stay the same so I wouldn't let that worry you. My friend and I were pregant at the same time with my due date 2 weeks before hers. I was not dialated at all by my 40 week appointment, and she was dialated 2 cm at her 36 week. I went into labor within 24 hours after mt 40 weeks appointment and she went into labor at 41 weeks! Every pregnancy and every woman is different!

I had both my children at 36 weeks - my son did have some mild asthma but it was only for th first few months, he was sick more often than other kids. My daughter had reflux (for about 9 months) and had a hard time keeping warm but only the first few hours. Neither have had ANY long term issues. My ds was released 36 hours after delivery and my dd was released on day 3 so no ICU or long term issues. If you know you ate well, did not smoke, drink or use drugs then as a baby, it should be fine. Boys lungs develop last, girls gastrointestinal tract develops last - hence why the different problems. Girls are full term at 36-7 weeks, boys at 38-9, 40 is an average - like 98.6 is an average temperature.

That is a bad idea! That is 5 weeks early and alot of babies still have under developed lungs at this stage and would need to be placed in the NICU. Some can be fine and go straight home but its not a risk worth taking. I know its hard waiting those last few weeks but its worth it for a healthy bub! Besides, alot of the things women try at home to go into labour are dangerous and dont work anyway...hang in there!

If you have had 3 previous children (I am guessing they are your children you look after) it would not be unusual for you to be 1cm dilated. The babys head would be low because your abdominal muscles are not as strong as they were pre child birth. As long as your baby is moving normally (10 movements per day) and you are not having contractions or any bleeding everything should be ok. If your doctor suspects you are going into premature labour you may be given steroids to mature the babys lungs as this is one of the last parts to develop prior to birth. If you have a premature birth a doctor from the NICU should attend the birth to attend to any problems that may occur. If born too early the baby will most probably spend some time in the NICU for observation. Try not to worry (it's hard not to though) as there have been many babys born much earlier than 34 weeks and have gone on to be normal and healthy. You should take this time in the last few weeks to rest and do a few things for yourself because you won't have much time to yourself after baby is born.

My son was born almost 3 weeks ago at 34 weeks. He was in the NICU for 2 weeks - we just got him home. He came out pink and screaming, and was always able to breathe on his own and maintain his body temp, his problem was eating.

Around the 34th week of pregnancy a baby learns how to breathe, suck and swallow (the essentials of eating). Because he came out the 34th week, he had to learn those skills on the outside. A lot more difficult because he also had to be woken up to eat lol. Poor thing. He's home now, sucking down his bottles, and he's gained almost a pound since his birth.

I don't have the answers to your questions but just wanted to wish you luck!!! I am 32 weeks pregnant & due to complications they say I may have to have the baby in the next couple of weeks. I have been wondering the same thing about having my baby at this early stage, what would the implications be??? Anyway hopefully when someone answers your questions, I may get some answers too! I really wish you the very best of luck!!!
