If the only reason for your past c -section was fetal distress then I would encourage you to try for a natural delivery this time. In Britain most women who have a c -section are now attempting a vbac second time. Approximately 70% have successful vaginal deliveries. I'm astounded at the number of people who have advised another c- section purely for pain relief. A c -section is a major operation with all the risks attached of any other abdominal surgery. Each time you have one the risks get higher. You face an increased risk of bladder and bowel injury, also haemorragh and if your'e really unlucky hysterectomy. In addition recovery time gets longer. Why risk all that if you are able to deliver vaginally. In adddition, if you plan a large family then a second c/s will limit you because once youv'e had two you will find it very difficult to then have a vaginal delivery and, because of the increased risks of repeated sections you are advised not to have more than 3. C section is a life preserving operation, not a method of pain relief. Try for vaginal and good luck.

I had a vbac with my third after having a c-sec with my second due to him being breech. I went to a freestanding birth center with midwives and delivered an 11# 2 ounce baby boy(5 months ago) completely natural in the bath tub. It was the most amazing thing I have ever done. It was hard, but who ever said having a baby was easy. But it was also wonderfully empowering and I wouldn't change anything for the world. If we have more we are going to do it the same exact way(possibly even do a home birth). I also think that the recovery was alot easier than the recovery from the c-sec. A little trick for a speedy recovery from natural birth. Take post pardem herbal baths. Go to a bulk herb store and get Lavender, comfrey leaves and calendula flowers. Boil a pot of water add a handful of each herb, cover and remove from heat. Let stand 15 to 20 min. Using a cheese cloth strain the water into a warm bath(you can reuse these herbs one more time). Get in the bath and relax for a while. Take a bath every day until you feel better. You'll be amazed at how quickly you heal. Also if you get baby in the bath with you the bath will help baby's cord fall off quicker. Don't do anything with cord accept dry it off really good after the bath. My baby's cord fell of by the time he was 4 days old. If you do a natural birth I think you will be amazed at how beautiful the experience is. Just be sure to write a birth plan so your doctor and nurses are aware of how you would like your birth experience to be.

I would say try for the Natural. Your recovery time after will be shorter and unless you tear you won't have any stitches to care for along with new baby and your older babe. and even with a tear it is not as bad as C-section! Natural birth is not that bad.....well I will say that you hear horror stories but not everyone is like that!!! I went without drugs through it all...and I will tell you by the time it came to pushing my adren. was pumping so pain was no where to be found! Every pregnancy/birth is different...I know that you hear it all the time but it is VERY true. You have to go on what you feel is best for YOU. Ask yourself this too...do you want to experience a natural birth?
If You still can't decide talk about it some more with your doc and see what his professional opinion is on what you should do...he could also help you weigh the pros and cons of both with more knowledge.
Take a deep breath and do some research for yourself, not just taking the opinions of other people.
Good luck and congrats on new baby!!!!

My best friend is going through the same thing and has decided to wait until 36-38 wks to make a final decision after having a scan to check baby's measurements again as her first turned out to be 10pd.
I think VBAC's are a great idea (i have had 2 natural and they seem to be better than a c-section from what I've heard) and if you have an assurance of medical assistance should something go wrong and the doctor has given you his blessing, then go for it!
A natural birth can mean better recovery and bonding and generally better well-being for mum and baby. If you have no underlying medical conditions and the doctors will be on hand to monitor you the whole way, then do it!
Good luck with your decision and ask for a scan to check babies position and size, closer to delivery before you make a final decision.

A C-section is a breeze compared to natural childbirth. No horrible labor pain, no excruciating pushing, and no episiotomy tears. I had 2 children the regular way and 1 an emergency c-section. All three I was in terrible, excruciating, horrific pain for 3 days at least. My water had broken first and I wouldn't dilate at all. They had to give me morphine at one point because I was writhing and screaming in pain so much. I am pregnant again, and when my doctor asked me if I wanted to do a trial of labor I said NO WAY before she even finished asking the question. So, I am having a scheduled C on September 23rd. Of course my childbirth experiences are probably not the norm (I have endometriosis which could be a contributing factor to the terrible pain and long labor) but my opinion is C-sections are way better.

I would suggest doing some research about this, if you haven't already, in addition to asking people their opinions. You should make an informed decision, not one based on people's (sometimes uneducated) opinions. With that said, according to my doctors, vbacs CAN be safe, depending on your personal situation. And you know that the recovery after a c-section, with a newborn, is no picnic - recovery after a vbac would be much easier. I know a few women who have had very successful vbacs and definitely do not regret doing it that way. But every woman is different. VBACs come with risks, but so do repeat c-sections. So, again, I wouldn't listen to all the opinions about what you should do, because it's your body and your baby and you have to decide what you are comfortable with. Talk to you doctor about the risks of each way of delivering. Good luck.

I had a c-section due to medical reasons when i had my daughter 2 and a half years ago and was told that I would never give birth naturally. I would give anything to be able to have a vagina birth and if I had the choice, especially after having a c-section I would try having a vagina birth. It's alright for us all to give advice but this is your experience and you have to do what you feel comfortable with.

i had a natural first birth a a section the second. i would go natural any day. once its over its over. the recovery is easier. especially with another child. its hard to care for another child and a new baby when trying to recover from surgury. but the choice is yours. do whats in your heart. a healthy baby and mom are the main goal. see another doc for a second opinion if it will make you feel better. hope i helped alittle. good luck and congrats!!!!

Hey the same happened to me with my children my first was c-section and my doctor told me that if you have one you have to have another one, that was with my second child. Then with my third a different doctor in another state said that I could have natural birth but.........there is a possibility that my uterus may burst due to the pressure on it that will be caused by pushing..my husband and I were like what the hell? So why would we even consider this. So from me to you I would suggest the c-section again, just to be on the safe side.

Try for the natural birth, you will be so happy you did! It's such a great feeling of accomplishment to labour and deliver your own baby! Plus, recovery is much easier. Even if you start natural labour and problems crop up, they'll c-section you anyways, so what's the harm in trying???
