2. 2.8 ghz C2D.

I am just guessing by the clock speed that this is the E6600 c2d conroe core. This is an amazing chip! 4mb L2 cache where the other 2 won't have more than 2mb. Also, the c2d uses less power due to the smaller transistors, which means less heat so it can operate more efficiently. It also uses a 1066mhz fsb which gives it more bandwidth when communicating with the motherboard. The c2d is more expensive, but definatley worth it.

Core 2 duo is the best of your 3 choices but Xeon is the best processor on the planet (Except Intel Polaris witch has 80 cores)

I guess you want to go for Intel processor, if thats the case then Core 2 Duo would be better.

But you should check out AMD's Dual Core processors also, They offer better value for money.

I go with option 2.

2 processor are better and faster than one, and core2 procs are have a better efficiency factor than the earlier release dual core processor from intel.

#2 should be great. BUT if I had a thin wallet, I would get the Pentium E2160 (1.8Ghz) then overclock it to 3.4ghz. Beats even the 2.93Ghz X6800.
