I mean inter-racial marriages.

2007-08-31 02:14:09 · update #1

Thanks for all the responses so far!

I believe in mixing our cultures, race, religion and, etc. Although I cherish my history, I believe that since we are a part of the human race, there should not be division or segregation. I try to practice a zero tolerance for prejudice and racism.

I met some very nice people who now live here in America. They formally lived in India. After getting to know them a little bit I found out that they do not believe in mixing in marriage.

I respect everyone's right to have their own belief system and was just wondering if this type of what I choose to call prejudice is widespread in India.

Just wondering.

Again, thanks for all the responses.

I forgot to add that the young people in the family are terrified of loosing their family if they do marry someone outside their culture. At least that is what was said.

I appreciate your ideology. There have been such prejudice but in these days there is a formidable change. People have started marrying spouses from other cultures and religions. But that what you call prejudice, is not completely finished. The wonderful thing is that the diminishing rate of this prejudice is very high.

Yes, there are mixed marriages in India.

Well I sure hope so. I read on this site so many guys complaining about the Indian girls. But so far, I have found you all so very kind. I have met many girls since I am an IT worker and I have heard many of them complaining about the guys. So my response is if they won't treat the girls right, we will. But my question to you is why do you ask? Because if you are looking for a mixed marriage, I do not believe you will find many candidates in India? I wish us both luck. :))

If your definition of race is the one which is divided into African, Caucasian, East Asian, Indian, etc., then no, there are no such inter-racial marriages in India.
Actually, you'll find only one race, ie. Indian, in the country. Some Indians, living in the west are known to have married Caucasian or East Asian people, but that's one in thousands.

I do believe that most ppl did not understand your question. You did mean Inter-racial as in- between 'black, white, Indian and other. People mistook your question for inter-religious/community, I think. For the 6 months which I lived in India, I had witnessed couples that were Indian/white, white/black-as in American/S.African, Indian/other races. That is inter-racial.
That is called LOVE without prejudice

Sure they r happening all over India. But there r still some people who r not ready to do so. My friend is a Punjabi & he was in love with a Ghadwali girl & wanted to marry her but his father was very much against it. He was ready to kill my friend.
As compared to earlier times mixed marriages r happening in large numbers & more & more people r wiling to do so.
