If I use the free version of killdisk and wipe out all data and drivers, what do I do next to help start my computer clean again?
Do I just install Windows XP and will that make all the drivers workable again?
Also, can I install windows vistas instead of XP after formatting?

Well first and foremost you need to make sure that you have all the drivers you will need. You should have a disk that came with your PC that is probably titled Drivers & Utiliities, or something like that. All you have to do is install them after you install XP.

If you don't have a disk like that then you'll have to visit the website of whomever manufactured your pc (Dell; HP; etc.) or all of the websites of the various hardware you have and download the drivers you need. Do this BEFORE you run Killdisk.

Killdisk won't affect your BIOS so don't worry about that at all.

Once Killdisk finishes wiping your hard drive all you have to do is insert the XP disk into the CD drive and then reboot the PC. It will boot up from the CD and it will run the setup files. All you have to do is follow the onscreen prompts.

I would imagine Vista will install the same way. I would try it first if you really want Vista. Generally, if may ask you to insert your XP disk for a moment so that it sees that you have a prior version of Windows.

Hope this helps.
