My all time fav movie, never watched it without crying. That isnt the lifestyle of the typical New Zealand people is it? Also what did you think of the movie? It was a good hit here in Australia.

I thought the acting was out of this world fantastic! I also think Mauri's are hot!

It is a great movie! Having never been down under I don't know if it really is the life of the Maori. But knowing the life of our native Americans I would bet it is. Brits are Brits whether they went to New Zealand or the Americas. Of course we broke away and possibly got worse. We destroyed the Indian nations, leaving them reservations on the worst land in the country. Now they are getting back with the gambling casinos and not having to pay very much in taxes.

I saw the movie again recently on cable tv
it was an EXCELLENT movie, albeit sad,
and a bit on the violent side, but it was gritty and from what i understand, a very realistic portrayal of things in New Zealand.
Movies like that expose us to cultures and ways of thinking that we typically do not see, here in the states.
I have the movie on VHS.......

Yes its brilliant isnt it? You should read the book. Im from NZ and no lol, thats definitely not our typical lifestyle. You should try "In My Fathers Den" for another fantastic NZ movie

Oh the acting was incredible. Yeah its really hard for me to sit through the rape scene though, I always fast forward that part cause it just kills me to watch it. The acting was so great. Like one moment you want to just kill the father but like the car trip scene w/ them all happy makes you like the dad a little. Now that's great acting.
