well Greece is a multicultural country from the point of view that lots of people from different countries live together.
with the EU it has become easier for people to transfer themselves and their lives elsewhere due to the common money and lots of more "lucuries
also the Greek population cant do without the immigrants ( grannies would die cause no one is there to take care of them etc) but of course the people who come here come due to economic problems so they also complete their life
mentality is also affected.
we can explain this with the communication of people from different countries.
people from different countries have different cultures and different options about important issues.they see things from a totally different point of view. so we come in contact with sth further then our beliefs and our opinions and our mind can travel further. the result is that we become open minded.
and i bet that there are much more other plus that we can find from this procedure

Although I have a huge respect for other religions and cultures the multicularism at leat s it was meant to UK it's rather something to be avoided....Besides even the current Archibishop of York (and a African in birth) has declared last spiring that multiculturalism has failled UK. So why could anyone expect for it to serve better Greece?Generaly I am for a integrationist aproach. After all I thing that culural belonging it's far more imoptant from a supposed racial afinity and so I thing that even the descedants of African emigrants will prove themselves (with the right education) far better citizens than the supposely pure blood "Greek" citizens which spit on and burn our beloved flag...

Leonarda, many countries are becoming 'multicultural' the way you or others see it. There is a lot of internal and international immigration all over the world. I am definitely not against other peoples and cultures (you should know it by now). But I do want local cultures and traditions to be preserved. This is a battle we arelosing

How many languages are spoken in Greece? Too many languages affect mentality because people cannot know all of them and so they cannot communicate.

In order to be recognized as a multicultural society, you need:

1. government support for newspapers, television, and radio in minority languages,
2. support for minority festivals, holidays, and celebrations
acceptance of traditional and religious dress in schools, the military, and society in general
3. support for music and arts from minority cultures

Add: Hoplite, multiculturalism was adopted as official policy, in several nations from the 1970s onward.

I might be wrong but I haven't seen any of the above during my time in Greece.

Soon after the creation of the Greek State Greek society became multicultural in large cities, first Nafpion and then Athens. The old good "Babylonia" of the author Bysantios is about this.
In 1922 a new culture with its customs, habits, and life style came to be added (happily) with the refugees from Asia Minor, and after the civil war internal immigration gave rise to a new "multicultural" society in Athens and thessaloniki, which by the time, due to common education and later to television, became neutral and even worse, adopted american features.
No, greek society is not multicultural because it is already americanized, from the cities to the villages, and the "revival" of the greek traditions at the 30' s and the 70' s belongs to history, while immigrants try to immitate the greek way of living, being intentionally deprived of the culture (whatever this might be) of their country of origin.

multicultural is fine

the illegal immigration from the balkans, africa and asia is not ok because in some years they will be more than greeks

I mention illegal immigration because multiculturalism is being used as a blanket to hide this crime
