i have used the download cd and got to the stage where you had to connect to internet...the picture of the internet cable was different to the one i was using - instead of a usb input it looked like a telephone plug, so i bought what i thought was the right one (ethernet cable) and used that to connect my modem instead, (as per the picture on the disc), but when i use this i cant even connect to the internet. what am i doing wrong?

Don't use both the USB port and the Ethernet port on the cable modem. Use one or the other. Have you powered down your cable modem and back up? Before attempting wireless, connect your PC to the router with a wire to get it set up.

Are you using DSL or Cable Modem? If DSL, then you'll need to work with your ISP to make some changes. You see, DSL (from my experience) 'talks' PPPOE rather than standard TCP/IP (different means of communication over the internet).

Again, if DSL, your router comes standard wanting to communicate via standard TCP/IP. It needs to be put into PPPOE mode. Your DSL modem will need to be put into passthrough mode.

Confusing I know. If DSL, then call your ISP and discuss this with them. They'll walk you thru the process.

Now, if this isn't a DSL issue, and it sounds like you're want to talk wirelessly, then check the configuration on the router. Make sure it's setup to do wireless. I have a linksys router and I had to specifically tell it to do wireless.

Also, if wireless, make sure (once you can connect to the internet) that you setup wireless security. This will keep the bad guys out of your network. This will all be documented in the router documentation. You can also go to the router vendor's webpage for more instruction.

Good luck!
