I'm in London, and for no reason other than habit, I have the bedside radio tuned to "LBC" and the radio is on - very quietly - all night. Since it started way back in 1973 (it was one of the first) it has gone downhill from being a solely London-based talk and news station to a nationwide pile of shite with the coming of DAB, so consequently we get calls (why do they allow them!) from a mad, fuming Scotsman who's heard of the presenter from somewhere else and just phones in to be nasty most nights. I don't mind the mad religious maniac (Chris[tine] from Crouch End) coming on quite often because although she's been coming on for several years now spouting utter rubbish they've just got her thread and give her back as good as she gives, and usually better just lately to boot, but some of the callers nowadays just phone up to make silly noises down the phone - and it annoys me why the presenters don't just "dump" them.
Recently we've 'acquired' what purports to be an old man who goes under the name of "Barry from Watford" who really IS amusing - and even sounds as though he's on the stage doing a 'turn', and I nearly always put the book down and listen whenever he comes on, but apart from that, most of the callers are mundane especially when they call from places like |Newcastle (sorry, but it's true!) and are excellent for curing insomnia ! ! !

My local station is B97 (Chiltern FM) i don't listen because the presenters are clueless they rarely pronounce songs correctly and its too commercial for my liking for every 3 songs they play 5 adverts.
I listen to Radio1 with a bit on Radio2, I looked on the R.1. site to find out why they repeat the songs so often. I would think R.2 give the same reason-
Why don't you play A-list tracks less and feature a greater number of tracks instead?
Again it's a question of balance. Most people don't listen to the radio all day long and an A- list track won't usually be repeated for three or four hours. This means the average listener to Radio 1 will only hear the most played record twice in a week. If we played each track less then most people would never hear a lot of the tracks played - which would be of little help to the new bands we are supporting.

I love listening to the radio as I can put it on and not worry about changing the cd, etc....
I am in Australia and really enjoy ABC when I want to listen to great classical music without any adverts.....
We also have a good number of independent / sponsored radio stations that play a decent variety of songs from the 70's to now, some with hardly any adverts....
Its the ads that drive me crazy! And of course playing the same song too many bloody times!

We have excellent radio stations here. But I do not care to listen to the radio. The music I listen to is hardly played. And mostly the fact that If I find an artist or song that I like at home, I don't make a playlist with only a handfull of songs and hit repeat day after day untill they become mundayne. I listen to them when I feel like it.

I love listening to radio, however sometimes I got bored as the radio station plays the same song almost every hour since it was a hit.

I hardly listen to radio now coz they have become so commericalized now. I cant stand the long minutes of adverts and the crappy competitions and questions they make for the listners to participate. A total waste of time.
Now the age is so technical that listening to a tune I like it quite easy. I dont have to wait till I hear in on radio.
