I got a 98 honda prelude auto and i had the transmission rebuilt about 5k miles ago. Now i can hear like a buzzing sound sometimes and when they tranny gets hot it will start slipping gears a little bit and gets a little jerky in and out of gears. Could this be a easy fix or no?

The first thing you want to do is check the fluid level. If there is a leak and the fluid is low it will cause the slipping when hot. the buzzing noise could be from the lines for the automatic transmission cooler if the fluid is low and is pulsing through the lines or it could be unrelated to the transmission (for example, a loose heat shield on the exhaust).

so check the fluid first. if the fluid is low, top it off. I don't know what fluid the rebuilder used but if they didn't use the honda fluid the chances for a seal leak are increased dramatically. if the fluid level is okay, check the color (it should be pink) and smell the fluid (it should smell like oil, and not smell burnt. If the fluid is brown or smells burnt then the chances are its an internal problem.

most rebuilders have a warranty on their work. I would strongly recommend you take it back to whoever did the work and have them check it out.

hope that helps

biggest mistake someone makes after a rebuilt is beat the heck out of either a transmission or an engine. There is a brake in period depending on the type of material and process used to rebuilt your transmission and if you beat the heck of your transmission, you need major repairs. Understand it as when you are first born you don't start running you first crawl, then you walk, and then you can run. Go back to your mechanic who rebuilt your transmission and have him help you out, because I have ran into so many who have had your problem, and 10 out of 10 is because they figure they had a rebuilt and a warranty they could beat the heck out of it. GOOD LUCK if they give you a discount...........

If it's a 5 speed and your sure the whining noise is coming from the tranny, And your not having any clutch problems it is more than likely the throw out bearing. They don't always get replaced when the clutch is replaced. or it may not be the tranny. If it does it at a certain rpm it might be an exhaust cover plate vibrating. If you can produce the same sound in neutral at 3000 rpm then get someone to rev the engine and listen for the sound and try to pinpoint it. You may be able to just bent the cover away from whatever it's vibrating on.

AM A HONDA TECH

DO U HAVE A WARRANTY WITH THE PEOPLE WHO REBUILT IT

WELL ME PERSONALLY I NEVER REBUILD TRANSMISSIONS UNLESS IT MY OWN PERSONAL CAR OR ITS WARRANTY AT MY SHOP. I JUST SWAP THEM OUT BECAUSE YOU REPAIR THE GEARS AND THEN SOMETHING ELSE GOES OUT.

REBUILT TRANS HAVE A BREAK IN PERIOD JUST LIKE A NEW CAR. YOU MUST DRIVE SLOW/ NORMAL FOR 1000 MILES WHEN ITS FIXED. UNTIL YOU START DRIVING LIKE A MAD MAN AGAIN

BUT WHAT SOUNDS LIKE THE PROBLEM IS A STUCK SHIFT SOLENOID SAND A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH. I WOULD RECOMMEND DOING A TRANSMISSION DRAIN AND FILL (3 QUARTS) NOT A FLUSH. IF THIS DOESNT FIX THIS THEN YOU NEED A NEW TRANS.
