Try asking this question....
Are you a grade 6 instructor? If the answer is 'yes' you can contact the Driving standards Agency to verify.
If the instructor is good, he/she will probably charge more. However, their ability to instruct should also be better and therefore you will require less lessons to achieve your goals.
A DipADI has also shown a keenness to improve their knowledge by achieving a Diploma.
N.B......Although, BSM and AA do have excellent instructors (and poor ones) they also have huge overheads.....They have instructors that have Grades varying between 3 and 6.....6 being the highest.
I don't know of any Grade 6 instructor that would want to stay with either company as their franchise fees are ludicriously high. Having said that I have not taught in the UK since 1998, so I apologise if the situation has changed.

Go with a big company, I know you might like to look out for the little people, but the big companies will want to get you through the test quickly and the littler companies will be more likely to keep you longer than necessary.
Trust me, I went with a guy who had his own driving school with just him and I was learning for almost a year with him! It wasn't going anywhere and he was a lovely guy but he needed the money and so was keeping me on for far too long. I've only just changed teachers two weeks ago but I've already booked my test.
The lessons should be between £19 - £22, but think about how long you'll be learning because the extra pound will make a big difference.

Try to get some private lessons first and then go for the last few from AA or BSI.
There was a nice school in southall called safedrive. Try to look up his number!

if you can get loads of private tuition friends etc until you is real good then you won't need many driving hours from an instructor and you save more

Be careful. I picked one out of a newspaper and he was really creepy. One time he asked if he could put his hand up my jumper. Ask friends to recomend someone or go to the BSM.
