Honestly, how would the earth flood?
The moon would not make the polar ice caps melt.

The moon has a gravitational effect on our atmosphere and life as we know it.

If you think about it without the moon we would be further behind as a species from a technological standpoint. The moon has peeked interest from astronomers dating before recorded time. It wasn't until 69' that we actually made it to the moon.

Having a a closer target (which at one time) seemed unattainable gave us the initiative to explore the planet which has lead to a massive series of events.

The money and research dedicated to researching life on a distant planet has brought about hundreds of everyday items used by the common consumer.

I bet someone could write an extremely interesting book on this topic.....

If the moon were to stop moving, and when pulled by the earth, it will fall straight down on you!

First of all, if the moon looses its momentum to go around the earth, it will start to fall toward the center of gravity - which means it will be on its way to a head on collision with the earth. That would be THE ARMAGEDDON.

They would have to make an artificial one like the Death Star in Star Wars otherwise we would not have any moon light or tidal flows etc and it would upset the planets ecology that has evolved around the moon and its phases.

That would go for women too! Know what I mean...

There would be no more tides, the earth's magma flows would slow and that would mean less earthquakes and volcanoes, animals and the insane would have fewer mood swings and the sky would be a lot duller.

PS - the earth would not flood! The seas would settle at the mean of the high and low water marks. Where else?

it would be the end of fish and chips. couldn't catch codfish because there would be no tides. and the moon would either shoot off into space or slowly spin down and drop on south america or maybe iran or egypt. or pakistan that would be my choice.

The earth would flood. The pull of the moon is what makes the tide go in and out.

That is simple the earths gravity would pull it to the earth and extinction.
The moon has been captured by the earth and is trying to get away. Over the eons it is slowing and getting closer and closer.

Our world would drown, due to the gravitational pull of the moon on our earth's oceans.
