I heard that Bush has already put plans forth with NASA to put a station on the moon. Is this something we should worry about?

I mean any country on earth. This might be a stupid question, I just realized.

something tells me that nukes with a three day travel time would not be very useful.

It is much easier to launch them from Earth and no you shouldn't worry about Bush nuking anybody. There won't be a station on the moon even during the next presidents term.

If any nation has the ability to settle on the moon, they already have the ability to get a good trajectory to nuke any other country.

If they have a rocket powerful enough reach the moon (with moon-base materials, etc.), then it is also powerful enough to reach any place on earth.

Missile bases on the Moon are pointless. It is far easier to reach a point on Earth from another point on Earth using an ICBM than it is to set them up and launch them from the Moon. Also, missiles from the Moon will take three days to get to Earth, giving the targetted nation plenty of time to take defensive action.

The plans for lunar bases are for scientific research, not for weapons platforms.

Why nuke? Just throw really really big Moon rocks at the earth. By the time they get here, all that kinetic energy will cause a really big boom. Just like in [the late] Robert Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress."

Yes, There wouldn't be any advantage to the moon base. It takes a more powerful rocket to get to the moon than it does to get to any place on the earth. The firing solutions from the moon would also be more complicated than those from Earth..

why worry about nuke. the russian already have a spacestation up in orbit. they could easily install nuke missiles if bush gets bushy.
