Weather is the temporary state that exists in whatever small timeframe you choose to analyze. Climate is the larger pattern within a region over a long period of time.

For example, the Pacific Northwest generally has a mild climate (a pattern of warmer-than-average winters and cooler-than-average summers), but it can still have hot or cold weather on any given day.

That's why global warming, if it exists, is so significant -- it triggers a *climate* shift, something long-term that isn't going to change back after a few weeks or months.
