I would imagine that any attempt at an authoritative answer to this question would be racist. This is a generalisation that would imply that all of the black people you have been really near to have the same smell as the hundreds of millions of other black people on the planet.

If you are noticing a pattern in the smell, perhaps there is something else these individuals have in common besides their skin colour. Perhaps they use a similar hair product or a similar soap, or perhaps they have similar diets.

In any case, I don't think you have provided enough information to warrant a non-racist estimation of the answer you are looking for. Hopefully this gives you some insight.

Man I think what u are smelling is your top lip.....Blacks smell no different than whites or any other race. I live in a neighborhood where there are a lot of Hispanics, when I'm near some of them you can smell the laundry detergent they use, I don't smell no particular body odor coming from them. I think it's just u..It like saying why do white girls smell like dogs after they get out of the water. ( oh this is not a racist comment)

From your level of ignorance, I would guess that you haven't been around that many black people. So, your 'smell of black people' you recall, could have just been that family or group of people you were near.

Seriously, how could you ask this question and not expect outrage? Here I am in my little la la world thinking everyone is nice to everyone regardless of their color or what not. Everyone should be celebrated for their differences.

With the way that everyone is mixed up today, by this I mean Africans don't just live in Africa, and Chinese people don't just live in China, I highly doubt that the people you came across actually had a 'smell.' I could see this happen if everyone still lived in the very separate and secluded environments, but not now.

Other than that, a group of people living in the same area, or in the same house (regardless of their color!) are likely to smell the same. If they eat lots of garlic for eg. Or if they are from an industrial part of town, their clothes may get the smell of the industry. But this is NOT DEPENDANT ON COLOR!!

The smell is in your mind.I bet if you were bind folded and taken near a white and a black man/woman alternatively, you wouldn't be able to differentiate.Try your self .No,they don't any specific smell peculiar to themselves. This could be called a classic case of 'learned behavior',where we know what it is but don't know why it is.
