According to me:
As men are stronger physically, women are stronger mentally.
Men control their emotions as women leave out emotions (cry etc)
Men are more emotionally involved in relationships.......... where women want to control and head the relationship...
Many may not agree with me but go ahead and put across your thoughts instead of disagreeing with me.

The only way that I believe I can answer this effectively is to give you examples from my own experiences....

In dealing with a task in partnership with my husband, I tend to be more methodical and organized. I pay more attention to the details. I have more patience and am happy with the task taking a longer period in order for it to be done correctly.

His strengths are in knowing HOW to do the task. And being far more adept at its execution.

So in our family, I am the planner and he is the executor. And it works for us...

Let's go a bit more basic, like evolution...80% of all women that have ever lived have offspring now living to day, only 40% of all men that have ever lived now have offspring living today. This was proven thru DNA studies about two years ago, had to laugh when most of the male driven media failed to report it. But it stands to reason, through out history, men have taken the greater risks. While such risks expand potential, it is deleterious to the gene pool as I am sure you can see. So women tend to be the more successful on an evolutionary level. Our genetic matierials survive and creat future generations, of greater intelligence, tho perhaps less exploratory drive. I am not saying that women are superior, I am saying we are genetically more successful at survival.
as for some of the drivel you have posted here, a mature woman has no desire to "rule" a relationship. She knows it will last longer and be stronger if everything is shared equitably and according to skill base.
as for emotions, it has been proven time and again that the repressed male dies younger and experiences much less happiness than the female of the species, so much for your emotional strength...it takes real strength to share ones emotions, whatever they may be. Men are indeed on a whole physically stronger, but in this society, it is much less important that being smart enough to avoid the need for physical strength.
Yet no gender can survive long without the other. The male and female of the species in order to be truly successful over the long term must be partners, not adversaries.

O.k. since we're going with GENERALIZATIONS, please people DON'T be mad at me for saying these things...lol!

Men are more emotionally repressed/oppressed. Women are more sexually repressed/oppressed. Men like to control women. Women like to be in control of themselves. Men are more logic-minded, women have a higher emotional and interpersonal I.Q. Men resist verbal communication: women embrace it. Men like to be left alone when upset, women want to "work it out on the spot."

LOL!

(Yes, I'm bracing for the several "thumbs down" I'm gonna get here...lol!)

EDIT: I agree with one of the other answerers who said that these differences may be influenced by socialization. I also think some of it might be bio-chemical (but I don't know for that for sure.) It may also have to do with evolutionary psychology (what we've inherited from our ancestors.)

Good question!

I used to ask this question of students in a woman's studies course. Ultimately, what it came down to was that there is no difference other than the physical. Everything else is socialization--which is gender and what we take each gender to signify. Our physicality influences our emotions (hormones) but every difference we ascribe to one another has been, in my view, socialized or conditioned. Nobody knows the extent of biological influence versus the influence of environment, but I think environment controls how/what we think of one another.
