No, no one had to tell me. It just kind of screamed at me "I'm here, now deal with it!" One day you're enjoying getting second glances and feeling downright good about yourself, and the next you're addressed as "Maam". Quite a rude awakening!

I used to think if the average life expectancy was about 80, then 40 would mid middle aged. Then I got to 40, then 45 and I thought "Nah". Now that 60 is just a few years down the road, I doubt I'll live to be 120. So I'll just skip "middle age" altogether.

****Sparkles**** LMAO!
Well I am 41 and I don't look like my Mom yet. She was in her 30's when I was born. I have thought about my plans for middle age since I was was in my teens. I had my first daughter when I was 18 and the other when I was 21. Before my 40th birthday my youngest turned 18 and move out to start he own life and my oldest daughter made me a Grandma.
It's like a new beginning and so far it is far better than I ever dreamed! Life is good!
I'll let you know how I react when I see my mom in the mirror. That might be a whole norther story!

My doctor told me...... Wow, what a shockeroo that was. I had never even considered it. OK, so what age are you considered a senior citizen then????.... When I was 14 I thought people were ancient when they were 25, LOL
I will add that I read that 50 is the new 30, but I think they were trying to sell me something

No I wish someone would tell my kids though, and that I am tired. In todays world 55 is middle aged, 70 is "senior" IMO in terms of functioning and life style for most people, and 90 is "elderly". Dont tell anyone else we might lose those discounts and pensions

Personally, I've yet to reach middle age!
Probably never will if I live to be 100. No problems, life goes on!

When courtesy clerks at the grocery store almost insist that they help me take my groceries to the car. I can still walk and lift and think. I'm 58 but I suppose that to a 19 year old, I am ancient. LOL

No one had to tell me...I saw it in the mirror one morning when I left my rose-colored glasses on the night stand...suddenly, I saw "cottage cheese" under my skin in certain areas....talk about a shock! I went into a deep depression that lasted...oh, say about 1 hour. I laid my cards on the table in private, decided that if all I had to offer myself and the world was smooth, wrinkle-free skin, I was in deep trouble. It did not take long to discover that skin had nothing to do with who we are, it is our intelligence, how we approach life, how we treat others, and what we offer to others that count in life. Thus ended my mid-life crisis.
