2002 World Championship Argentina over US
2004 Olympics Argentina over US
2006 World Championship US over Argentina
Those were the "tournaments" that matter most. This current tournament in Las Vegas is a piddling qualifying tournament. Six (!) of Argentina's players on those winning teams are not playing on their team in this tournament.
While the win tonight was nice, the US has not earned bragging rights over Argentina. Yet.

The U.S.A. Basketball team beat Argentina by only 15 points without 4 of their NBA players when the American team has been accustomed to blowing out International teams by 30 - 40+ points. However, that does not guarantee that Argentina will win with a complete roster. It just means that the U.S. vs. Argentina match would be the most competitive series in the Olympics.

Argentina is a nice team...I think Ginobili is their go-to-guy, but the US are too talented, Argentina will have a tough time everytime they play the US. Nocioni & Oberto r solid players, but they're not like Ginobili who can take it to the next level. But in order for Argentina to beat the US, the whole Argentina team's gotta play real good and Ginobili's gotta be hot on all cylinders....otherwise, the US will beat them at least 15-20 pts everytime...Lebron, Kobe, Anthony, Kidd, Stoudemire, Redd, i mean come on, so many guys that could beat you...

Yes US beat the team in the last FIBA Battle of the Americas but The US team have been defeated by this same team in the bigger stage, The Olympics and that is why this new crop of NBA players are just so raring to go against the Argentinians.
Too bad that this time though they failed to bring in their best team.

team usa beat argentina in the bronze medal match in the 2006 world champs. argentina had full strength team all there nba players. the score was 96-81
