do you mean seven sixths of a y? (7over 6 times y?)
if so, then you must multiply each side by the reciprocal of 7/6.
6/7*7/6y-8=6/1*6/7
7/6 and 6/7 cancel each other out
you get:
y-8=42/7
divide 42 by 7
you get:
y-8=6
add 8 to both sides
the 8 on the left gets canceled out
6+8=14
so y=14 is my guess

7/6y-8 = 6
7 = 6(6y-8)
7 = 36y - 48
7+48=36y
55=36y
y=55/36

7/6y - 8 = 6
Now is it (7/6)y or (7/6y, with y on the bottom)?
If y is on top,
First you would add 8 to both sides
(7/6)y=14
Then multiply both sides by the reciprocal (6/7) to get rid of 7/6
(6/7) * (7/6)y=(6/7) * 14
y=12
If y is on the bottom,
Then add 8 to both sides
(7/6y) =14
Multiply both sides by 6y
6y * (7/6y) =14 * 6y
7 = 84y
y = 1/12

Do you mean (7/6)y - 8 = 6?
First, isolate the variable.
(7/6)y = 14
Then divide the coefficient on both sides.
(7/6)y/(7/6) = 14/(7/6)
y = 12

Reading this as:-
(7/6) y - 8 = 6
7y - 48 = 36
7y = 84
y = 12

7/6y-8=6
Multiplying both sides by 6y you'll get,
7-48y=36y
7=(48+36)y
7=84y
y=84/7=12
