The military is trying to "stabilize" the area (against many different factions) so that the politicians can do their job and get that country back on their feet.

The war is suppose to be US vs. Terrorism, but not all the fighting is with "terrorist". Much of it is with local (Iraqi and other mid-eastern) religious factions looking for power (which, by definition, are committing terrorist acts as their game plan). The other portion, however, is with those terrorist we are seeking out.

The problem here is that many outside and internal forces are working against US, or at the very least, not with US.... from some people here at home, to the Iraqi sects, to Iran, and on and on.....

If the Iraqis can get behind it as a people, it could work. They (Sunnis and Shiite) have been fighting for a thousand years. It will be incredibly difficult to quiet/stop the fighting and fill the power vacuum.

A good solid plan from the start of this would have been nice. I think the "cause", in theory, was honorable. But without strong local support and good leadership, it will take too long and cost too much for my taste.

Wondered the same thing. I think its primarily an oil profiteering thing. There are quotes where Cheney himself explained why invading Iraq wasn't intelligent back when he was a part of the original Bush administration. A lot of people are making ALOT of money through this war. Military industrial complex and the oil industry - CHA-CHING.

We are not at war with Iraq. They are mostly terrorists from outside Iraq and some Iraqis that want to destabilize the democratically elected government of Iraq which we support. I guess since it is not a communist dictatorship, it won't get support from many on the left.

Good question, Saddam Hussein has been caught, executed, no WMDs, now it's about trying to turn Iraq into the next Israel which isn't working. I'm sorry but our policies toward the Middle East just do more harm than good. When will our congress and president learn when to quit?

Because Rumsfeld and Cheney wanted a war as an excuse to loot the treasury and told Dumbwad that he could dress up in a little fly boy costume and prance around in it if he went along with their plan.
