I have so much stuff on my computer, I can never find what I am looking for when I need it. How do you go about keeping your computer stuff for when you need it?

I am a writer and do a lot of research. I do not just have a computer to play with. I am constantly saving stuff I find that I hope to find later.

I don't save a lot of junk. If I save it I want it. There is not much to clean up if you know what I mean.

Place everything into your My Documents folder - that'll help back up things.

Organize items first as generally as possable, and then more granular. For example, I use my laptop for both work and home stuff. Thus, I have a work and a home folder. My work stuff is then divided by the different projects I'm working on. A project is then further divided by emails, design notes, specifications, etc.

This heirarichal aproach makes things easy to find too.

I use picassa from google to index all the pictures. I let iTunes keep the music folder organized. I have a bunch of sub folders in my documents. One for Pals with each pal by name. And I constantly reorganize the start menu manually into Applications, Accessories, Internet, and Games. That keeps me usually straight enough.

it is easy to organize the computer like a liberary or medical shop.in such places the people follow certain type of formatt to find a perticular think likewise you could arrange your files in alphaphatical order and everytime you open with tree view.
It mean you open your files only an explorer window and not just open it in double clicking or right clicking and open.
and also in windows you have search option.just press F3 key
or Windowskey+F3key in your key board for search your files.
and also it is possible you formatt your hard drive in ntfs formatt .because it have more advantages then fat file system.and you could fragmant your hdd also.it will speed up your file search

Most of us have the same problem...When you have time sit with your comupter...sort the files by the file types and how frequently you use them...make folders and store files as per there significance...make sure you have more than 1 drive on your computer.C:,D: and make sure you have enough space on C: drive so that the computer does not hinder itz performance(The O/S is on the C: so it needs to be froo 500Mb atleast)

CHEERS!!!

I get rid of all the icons on my desktop, except for the ones I use daily. I hate a lot of clutter on my desktop. I also have a lot of folders in the My Documents section so I can put my files where they need to go.

Listen Carefully. On your desktop Right Click--->Arrange Icons in the order you want them in... Then right click and Create new Folders and Label them Wether it be Programs, Games, School Work, Documents.- so on ... Doing that will make it easier for you to get to what your looking for faster. Also Delete any unecessary programs and files that is unneeded which will free up some space and make it easier for you to browse your computer.

Do more catogorzing work!! You have to keep it organized from time to time. The less time you spend beforehand, the more time you spend later.
