Do you think a CVT transmission is good or even better than a regular automatic transmission? Are they harder to modify/ "hook up" than a regular transmission?

I had a CVT on a 1997 Honda Civic HX and I hated it. It was awful. You just kind of drudge along. There's no drop down like when you stomp on the gas to take off in a hurry. It got 40 MPG but that's the absolute only thing that was even close to good about it.

A CVT tranny (Continuosly Variable Transmission) are known to be very problematic they are harder to modify because there aren't as many companies that make kits for them. Anybody that knows something about a transmission should know that CVT's are quite unreliable. You should go with a regular auto transmission it may save you money in the long run say at least $2500. If you do choose a CVT you may be among the lucky few who don't have any problems

CVT tranny's used to be crap. But with modern day technology and ingenuity, Saturn made them reliable. Nissan maxima's and I think Subaru utilize them as well.
they shift smooth and effortlessly.
they require a specialized transmission fluid, they do have filters, and do require regular tranny fluid changing.

allegedly, they're supposed to be limitless shifting, but I've counted 5 RPM changes in a saturn Ion.

They take some getting used to. When you leave a stop light the engine will go up to like 3K rpm and just stay there. the next thing you know, you are going like 70 and the engine is still there at 3K rpm. You have to let off the gas.

I would rather have one of the new 6 speed autos instead.

good luck.
