The River Nile.
The river runs across in many countries. The longest in Africa and, if measured from its remotest head stream, in the "WORLD"..It's formed by the confluence of its two main branches, the White Nile and Blue Nile, at Khartoum. As the river flows northwards into the southern part of Egypt, its course has the shape of a large S. The Nile is joined in this stretch by the Atbara River, the only permanent tributary between Khartoum and its mouth. From Khartoum to Aswan the Nile descends 951 ft, in a series of six cataracts. It continues northwards in a valley that is never more than 20 miles wide. Near Cairo, 107 miles from the coast, the Nile enters its delta. Here its flow is carried to the Mediterranean Sea by two distributed, the Damietta, or Phatnitic Branch (El-Garbi), and flow of the Rosetta, or Bolnitinic Branch (Esh-Sherki). Throughout the centuries the source of the upper remained a "Mystery".
Can you fine the tributaries of the Nile River?.

The Nile in Africa. But its status is being challenged by the Amazon in South America. Amazon btw is the biggest river in the world in terms of water volume.

One reason this gets tricky (other than USA pride) is the way we look at rivers. When USA expanded from the east, the French first and others encountered a north-south river and named it the Mississippi. After further exploration, they discovered this huge river coming in from the west, which they named the Missouri. Now normally, when following a river, if one finds a smaller river joining, that is considered a tributary - a side stream. And the Mississippi coming down from the north is much smaller than the Missouri coming in from the west.
Therefore, except for history, the RIVER is the Missouri-Mississippi with a branch called the Upper Mississipi and if you measure from the mouth of the Mississippi to the end of the Missouri, it is the longest river.
