I would rather argue that the human while racing somewhere like lemmings are not necessarily headed toward oblivion. there are many possible outcomes. Don't even try to focus on a billion years from now. Life as little as a thousand years from now will be completely incomprehensible those of us born today.
But in those terms you might consider oblivion being that all you know and cherish will lose all meaning in time.

Nothing is forgotten, though. Everything leaves a mark or an effect on everything else. The Universe would have been very different if we weren't here to rock it in the first place.
