I would like to get some chicken. I know that soil close to an older garage could contain lead. How close to the garage can I put the chicken without a possible lead contamination? We live in Southern California( gets very hot here). What is the best way to keep these chicken?

lead can be in the grass and or the insects around the garage, so some level of lead contamination is possible in the eggs.

never thought about that, but chickens of course peck and eat objects on the ground, including gravel and bits of flaked paint, etc. which helps make the egg shell hard. I guess if there was lead paint chips on the ground it could wind up in the egg, but I think it would be too minimal to hurt.

Heat has nothing to do with it. Chickens eat insects. Buy the chickens. If you know about raising chickens, you know you have to supply grit.

I don't know if hens eggs can carry lead or not... Maybe if you just buy a few bags of cheap topsoil- & spread it around where the chickens are apt to be scratching- it won't be a problem. ...
