I live near a university and right next door to me is an Islamic Student Center. Every so often a man or men go outside on their porch and start signing, cupping their hands over their mouth to increase the volume or their voices, and sing at me. Why?

This sounds a little funny. :) They aren't actually singing to you. I hope it doesn't disturb you. Actually, it is the call to prayer for Muslims, which takes place 5 times a day. It calls Muslims to their daily prayer in which they worship God. The call simply states that God is Great, there is none worthy of worship except Him, Muhammad is His last messenger, and then it calls them to prayer, and then calls them to success (symbolizing that being steadfast in prayers leads you to success.)

If you're confused or disturbed by it, I'm sure you could write them a letter or speak to someone in charge (hopefully they won't be rude to you.) :) And then they can keep the call to prayer inside the prayer hall instead of outside.

I hope that helps! :) (That was a cute question!) :) *Peace*

It's that darn "signing" which clearly is an indication that they are deaf and don't have any idea how much noise they are making.
Why don't you go ask them instead of asking us?

They're not singing "at you." They are praying, and praying in the appropriate place for them. If you don't like it, why don't you move?
