You have £500 to mess around with and want to double it by Xmas, must be a safe investment.....yet you have offered people £50 to choose your answer as best !!!!
Now I could, like others, advertise my web site or whatever here! but I won't.
There is no secure investment.. the stock market, currencies etc are all gambles.
Best shot...looking at E Bay the thing that seems to trade like mad is mobile phones, so, why not buy and sell mobile phones ?
The question you set is Actually very hard to answer...Do you realise that if everyone knew how to double their money without any risk they would ALL be Millionaires..Do You Realise that Starting with ONE PENNY by the simple ACT of DOUBLING it is only TWENTY STEPS FROM A MILLION !!!!
Good Luck...Remember "I am the I am that I am" You can do anything that you want!

The only way I can think of is to take advantage of the online bookmakers introductory offers to operate a matched betting scheme. This is not gambling but you must be disciplined and it takes some work.
See the full desription of how to do this on moneysavingexpert.com
Basicall it involves you making two bets of, say, £100 each. One maybe for a football team to win and a second bet where you lay it not to win. One of these must be right and the other wrong. If you get the right odds you will lose a small amount overall, say £20. Not brilliant so far.
Now you repeat the exercise but this time using the free bet offered by the bookie. Again lets say you lose £20. You would now be £40 down except that one of the second bets did not cost you anything, so the net result is a gain of £60.
Now close that account and withdraw any money in the account.
Move on to the next bookmaker and repeat.
You can generate over £1,000 before you run out of bookies to play with.

OK, well I would go to a few car boot sales right now, and seek out some nice presents that are in good condition, and save them for xmas.
When you have spent around £200 and got everything, feel proud that you have re-cycled all your presents this year and saved £300 in the process. For which your relatives should be pleased.
Now with the £300 I would go to nsandi.com and invest the lot in Premium bonds, and you will have a chance to win up to a million quid over the next few months leading up to xmas. If you dont win anything you can always get ALL of it back! http://www.nsandi.com/
Also consider making presents, you can offer services such as pledge to wash up for a month or wash someones car 5 times or something like that.
AND, there is also the present whereby you purchase medicines or a mosquito blanket for someone in Africa, and give the certificate of purchase to your friend for xmas, have a look at oxfam.org websites and they have all sorts of gift ideas for xmas presents with a big difference! http://savethechildren.sandbag.uk.com/Store/DisplayAllItems.html

Ever consider selling or promoting other people's products or membership sites. You don't need a website, Phd or experience...just tell your friends in the internet about those products. If they buy, you got commissions! Just imagine...the internet is a Super Market place for selling products...
