My friend's brother is a drug dealer, doesn't go to school and lives in his mom's basement...he stopped selling for a bit and didn't have any money, and was always complaining about how broke he is..So, I got him a good job that pays $10 an hour and has very good hours, and he went to the interview, got hired, but never showed up for his first day...Are drug dealers just lazy or do they have some kind of social anxiety disorder so they are scared to go to work with real people or something?

All of them are the same. They feel entitled to more than they're willing to work for. They assume that they are so 'great' that money should just fall into their lap, and to h_II with anybody who gets hurt from it. They are the self-centred, immature, lazy, self-righteous scumbags of the earth.
NOBODY respects them, except for crackheads and other drug dealers (maybe).

Living in his mothers basement eh?
lol, and that's where he'll stay!
( while you work, get educated, enjoy a career, family and a healthy life...)

Could be both, but then it could just be the idea of making fast money...but that "fast" money comes at a big risk. He could be arrested if the person buying the drugs turns out to be an undercover cop...or he could be killed if a deal goes bad. He needs to get out of that business and find a new line of legitimate work. maybe counseling might help.

Your mother might also want to re-think letting him live there. In some places, if a person harbors a known drug dealer, they can get in trouble, too.

Drug dealers are usually quite heavy drug addicts, and "slaves" to their addictions. They are at the most extreme end of addiction. They can't make money fast enough (the "normal way") to support their drug addiction and the addiction that they've developed to the fast, easy, wild way to make money and spend it. They often also have one or more mental disorders (like depression, bi-polar, anxiety disorders, post traumatic stress or schizophrenia). Usually the disorder(s) were present even before the addiction to drugs developed. (Many are unknowingly self-medicating for conditions they don't even realize that they have.) All of this, in combination with many other factors (such as homelessness, relationship problems, trouble with the law, illnesses brought on by addiction) often make it even more difficult for them to assimilate into "normal society." They need treatment. Often that's the last thing they want. It's all part and parcel of the horrible disease of addiction. Heavy addicts are so dependent (physically, psychologically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually) on drugs that they just can't function normally. They end up digging themselves a giant "hole" that they just can't dig their way out of: alone.
Quite often (but not always) they have come from broken homes, been abused, or lived in an environment that helped perpetuate the psychological conditions that influenced their condition. They also can be genetically pre-disposed to addiction and to certain mental disorders. (Runs in families.) Usually if there is no intervention, someone who is a drug dealer ends up getting treatment only after he/she ends up in jail. And unless they have a supportive, clean environment (and continued treatment for their addiction and mental issues) to go back to once they get out, they tend to fall right back into the lifestyle again.

Most dealers partake of their supply so there's never a profit. They are so hooked on their dope that they no longer have any brain cells that are working properly.
I'm a child of the 60s & knew a lot of druggies back in the day. You would not believe some of the weird stuff we did, way back when.
Like the old saying goes,
" Why Do You Think They Call It DOPE?"

Selling drugs is easy. It's not a social anxiety disorder, because they have to work with people non-stop. They have to maintain contacts otherwise they'd have no business, and no one to get them out of messes. He's lazy and drugs = easy money.

They don't want to work... they want the money but not the effort in having to ' earn ' it.

All drug dealers are the same. Unless they ' Want ' to change, your wasting your time.

Sorry that it's your brother's friend, but, I hope your brother is smart enough to STAY AWAY !!! !

Drugs ARE NO GOOD !! for anyone

I think your question answers itself.
He is uneducated.
If not for his mom, homeless.
You did not state this but I would assume he is also a user.
No chance of success, or at least what we consider success in our materialistic culture.
If you really want to place blame. Then place the blame where it belong. The Pharmaceutical company's and Doctors are the biggest dealers. Oh I forgot the distillers of Alcohol.
Please believe me I am not trying to justify his behavior, just trying to view it objectivly.
If you could get him to an N/A meeting it might help.

I imagine there are as many answers to your question as there are people who deal drugs. Every person, I would imagine, has his own story.

they are lazy, its quick money.

Also the lack of education? might make them feel useless at a challenging job.
