The bigger question is why did the GAO leak it early? I guess they knew that W would edit the crap out of it. . . . .

Because it is not telling the truth. It is speaking in half-truths. What it fails to tell you is that many of the bench marks set were unrealistic (deliberately so by the Democratic Congress) and do not account for progress. The truth is that the surge has made progress on the military front, but there is still a lot of work to be done on the political front. Rebuilding a country that was oppressed by a tyrannical dictator for 30 years is going to take time. Heck, after the Revolutionary War, it took us 12 years to get a Constitution. ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY.

Because it's an unbiased report that contradicts their "spin" on things. The thing is that Bush WANTS you to think that we're fighting and winning the war against terror, but in reality we're not. In reality the war has done nothing for our image overseas and terrorist support has actually strengthened. After 4 years we're not making the impact that we should have made by now. This war has become one of, if not the most expensive wars in US history, and for someone to invest so much into something you'd think you'd have amazing results, but we don't. As it stands we're not going to win this war without severely compromising our resources to the point where we'll no longer be the most powerful country in the world.
At the end of the day it all boils down to power and money, and right now Bush has none of either.

ok, everyone is saying bush will change the report saying we arent making too much progress in iraq, yet the libs claim that bush doesnt want to leave. why would he change a report that would favor what everyone says that he wants to do, when that would be the opposite of what you say he wants? do you realize you make absolutely no sense? its just like the 9/11 conspirators that say the US military hit themselves in the pentagon with a cruise missile. its called common sense people, please try to use just a little, if its the last thing you do.

They don't want the full extent of the negative details in Iraq to be released. That way, it won't hurt their poll numbers as much.
