I saw on Live Earth a flat long rectangular monitors behind those singers. It is not square or quarky star shape. There cylindrical TV screens or monitors around Shenton Way business district in Singapore. Large digital screens or LCD around the town in Orchard Road. and Suntec City. A Japanese man ever told me it was stupid to wear watches in Singapore because you have all kinds of clocks on streets.
O machi kudasai ?

I don't know if this is creative, but when I saw this question, I thought to say:
Because movie screens are square. And movies are usually in theaters first. And they want it to feel like you're in a mini-theater.

As for computer monitors...I have no idea. I guess because people are so used to square electronics?

Because how would we have "letterbox" movies on a round tv?

And besides, round motion just gives off that feeling of watching clothes in a washing machine.
