Ian Kennedy was called up to take Mussina's next turn in the rotation. If Kennedy comes on strong it would be a huge boost since Mussina has gone cold. I don't know anything about Kennedy. Will he be the next Wang, or the next Christian Parker? Real predictions, please, not mindless insults. I'll try to close this question before the game starts.

Thanks for the correction, Jon, should have said he's starting Saturday.

he is supposed to be awesome have you seen his numbers in AAA. they are sick as long as he can settle down and make it through the first inning rookie jitters i think he will be fine. Assuming we are hitting well to give him some comfort
Well in a sense he is the next mike mussina hahah but i dunno if id make that comparison as far as type of pitcher. Moose was a great defensive pitcher he was like having and extra infielder in his time.

Ian Kennedy is projected to be the 5th starter in next years rotation. He is part of the young Aces of Wang, Hughes, and Chamberlain. Add in Pettite as the leader/anchor and thats a pretty nasty looking rotation.

I love Mussina and he has more heart than 90% of the players in MLB today. I think it sucks that all of a sudden he lost his mojo. He does what's best for the team but he loves to compete and wants to help by pitching through this tough time. Unfortunately, the Yankees can't afford to lose any games and right now he is not giving the Yankees the chance to win like he had done throughout his career in the majors.

I pulled up his stats at Baseball America. (His stats page is http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/stats/player.php?id=453178 )

In the minors, Kennedy is listed at 12-3 with a 1.91 ERA. With 50 walks and 163 strikeouts in 146 innings, he has much better ratios than most guys coming up to the majors for the first time. Kennedy has only allowed 91 hits and his WHIP is under 1.00; that's always a good sign. It will be interesting to see what his odds look like once they spot a line on the game. The Devil Rays, his opponent, have been hot lately, just recently completing a sweep of the Orioles and piling on the runs. My other concern would be the fact that he is making his first start at home at Yankee Stadium, a place that can be intimidating for guys making a major league debut; however, his stats in the minors point to a lot of promise. I'll certainly be interested in the outcome of this game.

He one of the Yankees young guns, great numbers. I hope it translates well in the Majors. bringing him up now for a D rays game is a semi-smart move. He won't be going up against a contender, but these are must wins for the Yanks. I think they should have brought him up like Joba. In the bullpen, just to get his feet wet before he starts this late in the season.

well i heard many things from him but because of his first start im not going to be hard for him hes also pitching nascent the devil rays which aren't that good but i expect 5 or 6 innings 80- 90 pitches and 3 ks and 2 walks a good enough start

I think he'll do good, otherwise the Yankees would of never gotton him. But I belive that the best player they have is Alex Rodriguez. No one can beat his skills
