I was just wondering:
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, how come Fawkes isn't affected by the Basilisk's stare? Blinding the basilisk would mean that the phoenix has to look at it, right? Does it have anything to do with his song?
Thanks

Two possibilities, first is that the Basilisk has to make direct eye contact instead of the victim just seeing it's eyes. So if the Basilisk was focusing on Harry, it may not have looked at Fawkes until it was too late. Also, since the Phoenix is a bird with enormous magical properties, it's possible that it is simply immune. After all, it does die and become reborn on a regular basis.
