I dont get it. I am 47 and I still think Jerry Garcia was bigger than Elvis. I didnt care for his music or so called talent. He was just a big commercial success like Starbucks. It didnt mean he was the best, it meant that he was the most popular

He made rock music acceptable and mainstream. Before Elvis, rock music was considered black music and therefore avoided by much of American society. Although many people at that time, and even now, may criticize him for doing black music being white, he made that type of music more popular and really broke a lot of boundaries.

You're not looking back far enough. Yes, he got fat & druggy toward the end but name one Rock 'n Roll song BEFORE him. See what I'm saying? He's not as relevant today as he was in the 50's but before he hit, "How Much Is That Doggie In the Window" was the #1 song. I shudder to think what would have happened without him.
