I agree with you.
I think "crimes" like prostituion and marijuana possession should be legalized and taxed.
At some point, all of the "sin" taxes on tabacco and alcohol are going to start causing diminishing returns, and rather than raise MY taxes, I would rather that the tax base as spread to people who engage in other vices.
I also strongly support a very high tax (maybe 100 % or more) on lottery tickets and scratchers. So if you buy a $1 lotttery ticket, you should be also taxed another $1 so that extra dollar goes to the govt. (I'm not in favor of increasing the prize payout/pool structure, just adding a tax.)

Yes. I say all of the below humorously, so read along and enjoy it for its 2 cents worth. (Which means I do believe and love, committment, relationships, gulp even marriage, but this is the devils advocate coming out );
Hey. I think prostitution is the coolest thing since the invention of sex. Most states and local governments, and the federal government hate it. I love it.
You know why? Because then guys don't have to take a girl out on an expensive date and put up with all of her "issues" in order to get laid. And then, after getting laid, have to be nice to the girl for a long time afterwards in the vain hopes of having more mediocre if not bad sex.
Prostitution gets you practically anything you want, the way you want it now and without any annoying strings attached.
You pay, you play and then you go home today.
It also makes it easier for a guy to have sex with 2 girls at once. Previously you'd have to find a bi-sexual nymphomaniac. But with prostitution, its just a romp through the yellow pages and some dineros and you're living out your fantasy before you collect social security.

Good concept; but you are sadly mistaken about a few things.
First off, why would prostitutes want to be taxed? If they can keep all their money by still working the streets, don't you think they would? Also, government regulation would require regular testing for STDs. I am sure that a large percentage of the prostitutes in the U.S. would not be allowed to work legally due to disease.
How do you figure that prostitutes make $100/hour? Even if they do make that much, do you really think that they are working full-time? Say they make $100 per trick, how much time passes between tricks? What percentage do they actually keep?
Finally, do you think that enough people would want prostitution legalized? Would it be left up to individual states to legalize and regulate? What kind of zoning laws would be required? Personally, I doubt if many families would want a whorehouse in their neighborhoods.

I think it is a da-mn good idea and have always supported the idea of government sponosred prostituition. I think of course that that they should be entitled to free std testing and that they should have it done once a week> Yes it would make lots of money and usa is like the only country that does not allow prostitution

The federal government doesn't make it illegal, states do -- Nevada law allows it.
I wonder if they make money off it?
I don't see a problem with it.

Maybe a smarter idea would be to reduce wasteful government spending, rather than legalizing corruption. Also, why don't we legalize pot, drugs etc... so we can tax them?! Sex and drugs--
sounds like a f*cking good idea. Honestly! Are there REALLY people as dumb as you out there?!
