A group of engineering students from Purdue University recorded that their licking machine, modeled after a human tongue, took an average of 364 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. They tried the same licking test on 20 volunteers and found that the average licks to the center were 252 licks.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? An unanswered question, till now! Two yeas a go I licked my way to the center of a tootsie pop. I had written it down, and then I lost it. But I found it today! So, how many licks? A surprisingly low 6,591.

We did that once in Math class (3rd grade). I forget how many. We used it as an elapsed time exercise as well.
It kept them quiet for some time. I do remember that.
