First, simplify it.

Multiply by 4:
24-x = 16(x+1)/9

Multiply by 9:
216-9x = 16(x+1)

Distribute the 16:
216-9x = 16x+16

Add 9x to both sides:
216 = 25x+16

Subtract 16 from both sides:
200 = 25x

Divide by 25:
x=8

6 - x/4 = 4(x+1) /9
6 - x/4 = (4x + 4 )/9
54 -9x/4 = 4x +4 ( x 9 both sides )
50 -9x/4 = 4x (-4 both sides )
50 = 4x +9x/4 ( +9x/4 )
200 = 16 x +9x ( x 4 )
200 = 25 x
200/25 = x
x = 8

check
6-8/4 = 4(8+1) /9
6-2 =4*9/9
4 = 4
the answer is 8 alright

6 -x/4 = 4(x+1)/9

216 -9x = 16(x+1) (both sides times 36)
216-9x = 16x +16
200 = 25x
8 = x

6-x/4 = (4x+4) / 9

9 (6-x/4) = 4x+4

54-(9x/4) = 4x+4

50 = 4x + (9x/4)

50 = 16x/4 + 9x/4

50=(25x)/4

200 = 25x

x=8
