"if Michael Vick had been arrested for abusing women instead of dogs, he'd still be on the football field today. He'd still have the love and adoration of his fans. And, yes, he'd still have his Nike deal." The numerous NFL players who've survived charges of violence against women, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Lionel Gates (arrested on burglary, criminal mischief, and aggravated battery charges after an altercation with a pregnant woman in March) and Michael Pittman (a repeat domestic-violence offender who finally served time for aggravated assault after intentionally ramming his Hummer into a car carrying his wife and 2-year-old son). "It makes not a lick of sense," said sportswriter Don Yaeger to the Sentinel. "Why are we less concerned about [former Dolphins player] Lamar Thomas, who kept right on playing even though he shoved his pregnant fiancée's head through a window, than we are about Michael Vick?

I'm pretty sure if Michael Vick had strangled or electrocuted a bunch of women, he'd be in jail for even longer. He also didn't bet money to watch two women fight to the death. I understand that is also largely frowned upon by the NFL.

It is crazy I agree. Some of that I think is because time and time again, some women do not follow through with the charges and all that. We do have human rights activists they just concentrate on the handicap not stupid women who sit around and get there *** beat. while the animal activists are the ones that make the stick about abusing animals.
I love animals and think it is inhuman to do the things that football player did and I hope someone does the exact same things to him.
My question is, why is that headline news? Normal everyday people do worse things than that and it doesn't even get in the paper. But a football player farts and its front page news for days and CNN spends half an hour telling you about the smell. Where is the real news. Women and children get beat everyday do you hear about it. People get shot, stores get robbed, someone is looking at child porn right now and we will never hear a single word about because the person doing it can't throw or catch a ball. That is what is mind blowing, not this silly Vick cat who had to stick a prod up a dogs *** and flip a switch to electrocute it to make himself feel better.

I agree with you that we gloss over domestic violence too easily. However, let's be clear. If a professional athlete had killed a woman, they would not be loved and adored. Michael Vick killed dogs...or at least that's my belief. Have you seen OJ get the love and adoration of the public lately? How about Rae Carruth? Is he still playing in the NFL? I think people have acted as if dogs are more precious than people in some cases, and I couldn't disagree more. At the same time, the question you ask is loaded and unfair. The underlying point is quite valid though. Why do we tolerate domestic violence as we do?

First of All, I say get the best Lawyers money can buy and Sue the Pants off all parties involved in his dismissal. Somewhere along the lines his human rights were Totally Violated. They kill animals every week at the Animal/Humane Society. I don't see anyone CRYING OR STIRRING UP A WAR OVER IT!!!

It is NEVER OKAY TO ABUSE, HUMAN OR NOT. The Obvious Court Solution would have been a Fine & Anger management. To me it's Very Clear, for whatever Sinical, Political or Cash Rewarding Reason They are making an Example of Him. I'm Sure He Has Worked Real Hard To Reach His Goals and the Price He is Paying, Will NEVER Be JUSTIFIED!!!!!!

HE SHOULD STOP GETTING BEAT DOWN AND FIGHT BACK WITH INTELLIGENCE! I'D GET FRESH COUNCIL, HOW HARD IS IT TO FIND A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE VS. SO & SO TO PROVE A RIDICULOUS AND UNJUSTIFIABLE JUDGEMENT????????????????????

AND WE THINK WE'RE SO SMART, SOON ANIMALS WILL BE WALKING US??????????????

It is not ok to abuse women or animals.

That said, had Michael Vick been making women fight to the death, electrocuting and beating them, he would not, in fact, still be playing in the NFL, and he would definitely be going to jail. Does this mean that is alright for a man to abuse a woman, as long as she isn't killed? Not at all. The fact is, we do sometimes have misplaced values. In this case, we are right to be outraged by Vick's actions. But we should also be outraged when anyone hits a woman.

Michael Vick is an a@@! Remember him standing in front of the cameras stating he was "appalled that his parents had to suffer through him being unjustly accused", ha-ha-ha!! What an idiot! He honed his lying skills in "Simpson 101".

Speaking of which, you're right. Vick will go to jail for abusing dogs while the likes of creepy-loser O.J. Simpson commits a double-murder and walks free. Sick society we live in.

He killed the dogs, he didn't just abuse them. That's a serious crime. However, you're right----he could have beaten a wife or girlfriend into semi-consciousness and that would be OK with the NFL.

What can I say? Women are still not valued in our society or in the world. That's a reality that any female can tell you about.

Who said it was OK to abuse your wife, especially to the point they are dead?

Vick belongs in jail. Good riddance!
