I had to do more than one coat of paint 3yrs. ago, and when I went to remove the protective tape from the door frame and the base boards, the paint started to peal with the tape like a latex glove. What is the best paint to use and where can I get it.

The best way to avoid this is to take your time and cut in by hand. True, some painters are natural artists, but cutting in free hand is learned with practice.

"With all due respect" to DIY Doc, are you going to peel off and retape between coats? In that time, you could have done it by hand. If you do a good job of it on the first coat, you can "cheat" a little by not going right to the edge afterwords.

If you have to use tape, just cut along the edge. Its no big deal with a sharp blade, and much easier than masking off correctly in the first place.

With all due repect it isn't about the paint at all.

After applying multiple thousands of gallons; it's about how soon after application, you remove the tape.

Certainly the Blue OR Green "Painters" tape is superior to most other types, but the process dictates to anyone experienced, that the paint is not allowed to dry/set first.

Also I'd advise Not beginning at one and, then pulling the tape like a zipper. Peel the tape from the loose side, toward the seam side, gently, while the painted area is still moist.

That would be so no matter the substance of the paint, or the brand name.

Obviously once paint against tape and the surface has set, then scoring is the most effective method for removal.

Use the blue painters tape instead.
