When the problem asks for a square root, it is understood as being the principle square root (only take the positive value), thus -3.162277660168379331998893544 cannot be an answer. If the problem though asks to find the answer to x^2 = 10, then your answer will be accepted. Thus the right answer is just 3.162277660168379331998893544.
