why did they set the release date on august 31st? i mean having that movie title it would only be logical to have it in the month of october, and movies dont always more then a month and a half depending on how good it is. i dont know, i think it should have been releaseed like around the end of september atleast.

It's because John Carpenter's original is a classic horror favorite, and the longer the movie is out the more money they stand to make.

People are more likely to go see it before the Halloween holiday than after - so they made the release date early. It's pretty common actually - you've probably started to see Halloween decorations and candy in stores already

Saw 4 is coming out in October. October 26 to be exact. I guess deep down the studio knew it would be extremely hard to compete with a saw movie.

If you look closely, a lot of the Halloween franchise has really sucked at the box office and the Saw movies have done really well.

Have you seen the list of horror movies coming out this October? The producers obviously wanted an early head-start to beat out the competition. Plus there's the little matter of a movie called HATCHET, that's going to make Rob Zombie's remake look like a day "down on Fraggle Rock".
