That's a linear equation 'cause both the x & y values have powers of one. If the x was squared, it'd b an quadratic equation.

It is linear because both variables have an exponent of 1. It would be nonlinear if one of them were squared or cubed, etc.

you look at the exponent on y and x. if the exponent is 1 it is linear.
