I removed the top from the legs. I am thinking of using 1" osb and tiling the top. I want to have a high gloss/shine because i want to use broken up tile or pebble stone, so i want to preserve the look and detail of the tile. what would i use to finish off the top. the tiles are not going to be shiny. Any suggestions.....?

Just did the same thing PLEASE DO,NT use osb it will not stand up to the weather for long. use a good plywood, paint the bottom with some good out door paint, use a cement base tile mastic, I used ,some floor finish on the tile for wether proofing , the table has been out side all summer and we get a lot of rain, P/s the finish was poly foe hard wood floors.

I've done a couple, and have to agree with answer one...Use a high grade exterior/or marine plywood NOT OSB.

I suggest then seal the entire piece with marine varnish.

The tiling isn't so different from a floor or walls, but again, I suggest an exterior grade mortar and grout. No matter the table is round or squared off, you can also tile the edges with your mosaic, using a strip of wire mesh attached to the edge, then mortar/tile/grout, if you choose to go that far.

The shine after the fact can be achieved with a decent Epoxy clear coat. I assume your last sentence means the tiles are not already glazed? They certainly will be, after the fact.
