What kind of fish would you be able to put with a parrot cichlid. I have 4 africans (yellow lab, cobalt, mbuna, and red zebra 2 - 3 inches). Would they be able to live together. What size tank should i get?

It is generally a bad idea to mix cichlids from different continents. Parrots should be with other semi aggressive fish like oscars, severums, and firemouths. Other fast moving fish can mix with them as well as catfish. I would keep the mbunas with other mbunas and synodontis only.

No! You have African Cichlids, and Parrots are South American Cichlids. This means that the fish from different areas have widely differing water requirements and levels of aggression. The Parrot also has no way to defend itself against the aggressive Africans, and with its puffy cheeks, it would soon be shredded. Do not put any Parrot Cichlids with your current Cichlids, stick to African varieties.

be careful, because a parrot is a cichlid hybrid of a midas cichlid (Amphilophus citrinellus) with the redhead cichlid (Cichlasoma synspilum), or the severum (Heros severus) with the red devil cichlid (Amphilophus labiatus)..

given these, they are very territorial and may chase away, or most likely eat fishes smaller and weaker..

so try to find fishes who swim a bit fast and are not hostile to other fishes..

you may want a failry large tank for that kind of set up..Maybe a 75gal as a minimum would hopefully settle the territorial issues..

hope this helps..

I wouldn't suggest putting parrots with Africans...parrots would be classified as semi aggressive while Africans would be classified as aggressive.

With parrots I'd suggest these fish (and there's many more of course) sevrums, silver dollars, larger tetras, and angel fish.
