I bought him yesterday and he has not eaten any of the reptile sticks or lettuce i present him with. I split the stick in half and he put it in his mouth then let it out. The lettuce he did the same thing. He has been in the same tank i got him in at the store. What should i do?

Just give him some time to adjust. He's probably just scared.

Give him time to adjust. When I got my second pair of RES they didn't eat for almost 2 wks. When they get hungry they will eat. What you can do is go an buy some guppies or goldfish and stick them in the tank with them. This is a good source of food (but should not be the main source) and when the turtles chase them, its good exercise.

When I bought mine they wouldnt eat for days. Just leave him alone for awhile, let him get adjusted and he will eat when he gets hungry. Keep offering him food daily, even if he wont eat it, but take out leftovers after an hour. Offer him a variety of foods, live or dead, and remember, red eared sliders cannot digest their food unless theyre under water. So you cannot feed him out of water. I find that mine dont like pellets or sticks, and baby red ears are much more carnivorous than adults are and need lots of protein. Theyll adapt to the veggie life style as they get older. I find that mine like to eat "zoo med turtle treats" and "fluker freeze dried meal worms" the best. Ive just introduced 5 feeder fish today and they wont touch em yet. Also added some dead shrimp, dead caterpillars and live nightcrawlers. Im pretty sure my boy ate some of the caterpillar. Its gonna be an adjustment period for him. Just be sure to offer him a variety of foods daily.

Just leave him alone. Put a pellet in his tank on his basking area and leave. Mine did not eat for a few days after he was gave to us. Now right after I put his pellet on his basking area he is climbing up there to get it. I think you just need to give it time and stop trying to force it to eat. It should be fine in a few days.
What that guy said about the temperature is true. If his tank is too cold he Will not eat. Their water temp should be around 78 degrees and their air temp in the tank needs to be warmer.

here are some sites with info about red ears

Make sure the temperature is between 75-85 degrees, that's why it's not eating
