Unfortunately the term doesn't bode as it seems. A carpool mom is now what you call a mom who has a lot of time to spend a lot of money on herself and overdoes it. Over-processed hair, too much mystic tan, and jeans that she stole from her daughter's closet.

Good question, SoCal. I understand that it could be difficult to understand.
A 'carpool Mom' is very simply, a Mom of a carpool. She, physically, gave birth to the carpool. Not the idea, that is just silliness! Because the carpool is, normally, the size of a medium-sized car, a hospital was out of the question. She had to give birth, using a 'mid-wife'. Another confusing term which means the middle section of a wife (yes, her innards). I do not know why she is more capable, than others, to be a wife (it implies in the title that she is mediocre). Please do not ask me to explain that. I can't, I get confused.
I'm sorry that I didn't answer, in a short manner. A 'carpool Mom' is a woman that gives vaginal birth, to a car-that car is then used as a pool.

Usually it's a mom who takes her kids and other parents' kids places that they all need to go, like school. The logic is that this wonderful mom has the time to take her kid and so she would think little of taking other kids who live nearby to the same place. My mom was a carpool mom, and my friends' parents LOVED her for saving them LOTS of time.

An annoying, minivan driving, gossipping, stay-at-home mom that likes to drive her kids' friends home from school to learn more about their parent personal lives so that she can spread it everywhere to other carpool moms.

Probably me. I drive my son to school and on the way pick up my nieces. I drive the kids to appointments, after school activities, and shuttle them everywhere. Then go back home with my other two kids.
