You may however dash board reading might be between two marks low high and cold and hot. Cold reading then first line about 180 drgrees. second line about 200 degrees and hot anything over 240 degrees. So 195 will be lower part between the two operating range marks. Chevy reading is just a suggestion not real tempature reading.

No the temperature of a thermostat is the opening temp,so a 195 is just starting to open at 195 and is not fully open until it reaches 200degs or more.

I hope you are referring to the engine temperature and not the cabin. Many engines run in the 195 degree range but it will depend on the particular thermostat that you have installed in the van.

you will see an operating range. newer engines are designed for hotter temps. than the older engines. as long as it doesn't get too hot. make sure that all the air is out of the cooling system and the top hose (return hose) gets hot after the thermostat starts to open at 195.

Not really, They were never intended to be an exact reading, This could be done with a digital temperature Gage and a voltage divider in the temp sensor circuit. Truth is there is no real need for exact temperature control of car engines. If you live in the frozen north, you would probably never get over 150.deg.f.

Woodsmith You can't go by the readings on the gauges, besides most gauges read the following. 100 220 260.The only thing you can do is when the engine is at the coldest reading is to stick a thermometer with the radiator cap off and then as it is warmed up look closely at the temp at the highest point when,it's at the fully hot stage then, you take the readings.PUT RADIATOR CAP ON FULLY SEATED DOWN ON RADIATOR.

you,ll probably see it go a little above 195 before it cools back off, especially in the summer time, the gages aren't that accurate anyway, they always have a 5-10 degree difference in them,so if it goes a little over don't be too concerned,as the weather cools down you,ll see the hand drop a little on it,good luck with it.

It should come up to at least 195C and past it in the summer for sure. Normal operating temps for motors is around 200-210C. The guage in the dash or the sensor in the motor might not be accurate.

the thermostat will OPen at 195 deg. but you should see it get slightly hotter the first time it opens then afterwords it will open (at 195) and youll see the guage go down.
